'Notifications Could Not Be Retrieved' Error Message

Summary:

This article describes the issue of the 'notifications could not be retrieved' error message being generated when a notification alert icon is clicked.
Problem or Goal:

The error is not seen directly accessing OWA2010 and this alert intermittently appears. It can be seen across all browsers. This does not seem to break any functionality of OWA; clicking the alert causes a delay and generates the notifications could not be retrieved error message.

The notification alert is displayed at the top right-hand corner of the screen, as shown in the below image:

Use Ctrl+Shift+R to "Reply all" to the selected message.
